Film Noir

This post is dedicated to the genre 'Film Noir' as i am currently studying this for my AS in Media. I will be making a video as part as my Media course around two minutes long which has to demonstrate the conventions of Film Noir.
What is Film Noir ??
Film Noir is used as a cinematic term to describe certain films which usually involve dramatic and stylish crime scenarios. Early Film Noir ( Also known as classic ) developed during the 1940s and was visually dark and mysterious as it was shot in black and white. Early classic Film Noir movies include 'The Blue Dahlia' , 'The Big Combo' and 'Out Of The Past.'

Many Film Noir movies include a certain female who manipulate men with their looks and beauty throughout the story and in some cases , ends up being the bad character - these characters are known as the 'Femme Fatale.'

There are many sub-categories which link to film Noir as a genre of film , these include :

Psycho-noir
Noir comedies
Noir westerns
Noir-science fiction

Some television programmes also have Film Noir characteristics.
The link below will take you to a list of Film Noir movies and television programmes.
Soon i will post up an essay which dictates the characteristics of Film Noir from an extract of a film. The extract is from the opening scene of Casino Royale.
